Description

Explore the fascinating world of insects while learning how scientists study and preserve them. In this program, participants will be introduced to insect and invertebrate research, including the scientific method of insect pinning. You’ll meet Abbey Crossman, a coastal ecology researcher with Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, who studies invertebrates and their vital role in healthy ecosystems. Through real examples from her fieldwork, you’ll learn how scientists observe, collect, and study everyday insects like beetles, butterflies and grasshoppers. Participants will take part in a guided insect pinning demonstration using paper models, creating their own museum-style insect displays to take home. All supplies for the craft will be provided. Registration is required. Content is best suited for children ages 7 and up, but all ages are welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
